Houston. Federal immigration agents shot and killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston's East End on Tuesday, authorities reported. ICE says agents attempted to arrest Salgado Araujo around 6:50 a.m. on Canal Street and that an agent fired after alleging he tried to use his van as a weapon; agents reportedly were not wearing body cameras. Local and federal officials opened inquiries and community members held vigils; the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security announced investigations this week. On Friday, Rep. Sylvia Garcia, Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare and counsel for detained passengers held a press conference seeking information from Acting ICE Director David Venturella and updates on evidence and witness access.
