Oregon wildfire near Anthony Lakes forces evacuations

In northeastern Oregon, the lightning-sparked Anthony Fire has grown rapidly to more than 400 acres, prompting immediate evacuations and the closure of recreational services near Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort. Ignited on July 10, 2026, about two miles northeast of the resort in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, the fire expanded quickly from five acres under strong, erratic winds from a passing cold front, sending a large smoke plume over Baker City. The Northeast Oregon Incident Management Team 3 took command the same day, as officials widened evacuation zones. Nearby, the Salmon and Greenhorn fires have merged, threatening the historic mountain town of Greenhorn.
