United States health authorities have ordered a nationwide recall of Nara Organics Whole Milk Organic Powdered Infant Formula after a multistate outbreak of infant botulism linked to the product. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and public health officials in multiple states are conducting a joint investigation after at least three infants in California, Pennsylvania, and Washington were hospitalized. The affected infants developed severe botulism symptoms after consuming the powdered formula, including muscle weakness and respiratory distress, and required immediate hospitalization. All three received Botulism Immune Globulin Intravenous, commercially known as BabyBIG, which is the only FDA-approved treatment for infant botulism and must be administered quickly to reduce the risk of paralysis and respiratory failure. United States regulators said infant botulism is a rare but life-threatening illness caused when infants ingest spores of the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, which can colonize the large intestine and release dangerous neurotoxins that attack the nervous system. In response to the confirmed illnesses and the potential risk to other infants, Nara Organics issued a voluntary nationwide recall covering all lots of its Whole Milk Infant Formula products. The recall, finalized on June 13, 2026, includes 700-gram cans with UPC 860013251901 and 400-gram cans with UPC 860013251918. Officials said the recalled products were manufactured in Europe and distributed across the United States, and they urged caregivers to stop using the formula immediately and follow recall instructions from health authorities.
