Winona, Minn. — Winona County authorities reported that 22-year-old Elijah “Eli” Michael McCumber was last seen around 7:21 p.m. Saturday, May 23, on Echo Valley Drive in southeastern Winona County and became the subject of multi-agency searches using K-9 teams, drones, a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter and thermal imaging over the following days. On Thursday morning, May 28, deputies responded after a La Crescent homeowner on Rose Creek Drive reported seeing an individual matching McCumber’s description; McCumber was located inside a residence at approximately 10:29 a.m., reportedly tired and hungry but safe, and authorities credited coordinated efforts among Winona, La Crosse and neighboring county agencies for the recovery.
