The tank contained methyl methacrylate, a flammable chemical used in plastics and aerospace manufacturing, and had overheated starting Thursday, prompting fears of a boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion. Roughly 50,000 residents were initially ordered to evacuate as crews cooled the tank, monitored temperatures and pressure, and closed nearby roads. By Monday morning, officials reported temperatures had dropped from about 100 degrees Fahrenheit and internal pressure had stabilized, allowing a gradual return of residents.
