TEXAS GULF COAST — Coastal and near-coastal communities in Texas are under multiple National Weather Service warnings early Monday, May 11, 2026, as life-threatening flash floods and severe thunderstorms impact the region before daybreak. A severe thunderstorm warning covers parts of Aransas County, including Port Aransas and Aransas Pass, as well as southwestern Calhoun, central Nueces, eastern San Patricio, south-central Refugio, and eastern Kleberg counties. The storm line is moving southeast at about 45 mph and is affecting cities including Corpus Christi, Rockport, Port Aransas, Portland, and Robstown, along with key travel routes such as Interstate 37 and U.S. Highways 181 and 77. Forecasters say the storms are capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail, which may damage vehicles, roofs, siding, and trees, and create hazardous driving conditions in the dark. LEE COUNTY, Texas — A separate flash flood warning is in effect for east central Lee County, including areas near Lake Somerville State Park and Loebau, where slow-moving storm cells have already dropped 4 to 5 inches of rain overnight. Meteorologists warn that even one additional inch of rain could quickly worsen flooding in streets, underpasses, creeks, and streams, posing life-threatening risks in low-lying and rural areas. The National Weather Service urges campers and hikers along streams to move to higher ground, and drivers to avoid flooded roads, repeating its warning, “Turn around, don’t drown,” and noting that most flood-related deaths in the United States occur in vehicles. Residents in all warned counties are advised to shelter in interior rooms on the lowest floor of sturdy homes, avoid unnecessary travel, and remain alert until conditions begin to improve later Monday, ahead of a forecast warm, mostly dry stretch for much of South Texas before more storms return by the weekend.
