In New York City early Monday, an Inwood apartment building fire that began in a public hallway killed three people, left five critically injured, and rendered about 100 residents homeless after eight apartments were destroyed; FDNY officials and investigators are examining fire spread. Monday morning in Charlottesville a Red Hill Road home was destroyed, displacing four adults and three children; the Red Cross is assisting and fire marshals continue investigations.
