Mamdani Courted at Puerto Rico Retreat | JQJO

Three days after his win, mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani arrived at New York’s post-election retreat in Puerto Rico to a sudden embrace from rivals who once vilified him. In packed ballrooms and poolside receptions, union leaders, lobbyists and lawmakers sought meetings as he preached a “united front,” even as chants of “tax the rich” greeted Gov. Kathy Hochul. Mamdani skipped late-night parties, visited hotel workers and a mosque, and kept policy news to a minimum, while whispers swirled about Council leadership, a potential House bid, and prospects for key City Hall appointments.
