GOP backs Trump plan as shutdown deepens | JQJO

US senators convened through the weekend for the first time since the month‑long government shutdown began, but prospects for a bipartisan fix dimmed as Republicans rallied behind Donald Trump’s call to scrap Obamacare subsidies in favor of health savings accounts. The standoff widened the shutdown’s toll—unpaid federal workers, canceled flights, and delayed SNAP benefits for 42 million. Democratic leaders rejected repeal talk and pressed for a one‑year extension of ACA tax credits, while moderates explored a limited funding deal tied only to a future healthcare vote, an approach with uncertain support.
