Shutdown deepens as filibuster fight stalls fix | JQJO

Washington's shutdown dragged into a sixth week Sunday, with the 33-day impasse threatening food aid for millions and snarling air travel, as President Donald Trump urged Republicans to scrap the Senate filibuster. GOP leaders John Thune and Mike Johnson rebuffed the idea while pressing Democrats, who have blocked 13 reopening votes amid demands for health care talks, to supply five votes to pass a funding bill. Negotiations among moderates continued, but airports reported hours-long delays and courts ordered SNAP payments after the Agriculture Department planned to withhold $8 billion.
