Golf carts now mingle with traffic in St. Johns, Michigan, prompting rules enacted last month. In the city of about 8,000, officials count roughly 2,000 carts. Drivers must be 18, licensed, pass inspections for turn signals and horns, and use only streets posted 25 mph or lower. Mayor Scott Dzurka warns crashes could be pretty disastrous, while rider Cathy Kochensparger says she feels safe. A local dealer says most buyers aren’t golfers and even adds snow plows and salt spreaders. More than two dozen Michigan communities have adopted similar regulations.
