Hamas starts ceasefire talks; Rafah closure threatened

Read, Watch or Listen

Israel identified the remains of Ronen Engel and Thai worker Sonthaya Oakkharasri after Hamas transferred bodies to the Red Cross, as Hamas said talks began on a second phase of a ceasefire introduced by U.S. President Trump. Netanyahu’s office threatened to keep the Rafah crossing closed until Hamas returns all 28 deceased hostages; 13 bodies have been handed over, 12 confirmed as hostages. Israel reported militants fired at troops in Rafah, which Hamas denied. Hamas rejected a U.S. warning of an imminent attack and proposed a technocrat committee for Gaza. Gaza’s Health Ministry cites over 68,000 dead.
