China’s Ministry of State Security accused the U.S. National Security Agency of cyberattacks on the National Time Service Center, saying intrusions could have imperiled network communications, finance and power. In a WeChat post, the ministry alleged the NSA exploited messaging vulnerabilities in a foreign phone brand to steal staff data in 2022, used 42 types of “special cyberattack weapons” against internal networks, and tried to breach a key timing system in 2023–2024. It said it had evidence but provided none, added it helped mitigate risks, and argued Washington is hyping Chinese threats. The U.S. Embassy didn’t immediately comment.
