Preliminary results from Malawi's presidential election show Peter Mutharika leading with approximately 66% of the vote, while incumbent Lazarus Chakwera trails with around 24%. Mutharika's lead includes wins in Chakwera's strongholds. However, Chakwera's camp contests the results, citing potential gains from remaining districts. The Malawi Electoral Commission, aiming for transparency after past irregularities, is carefully reviewing all tallies before the final announcement by Wednesday. Eight data entry clerks have been arrested for alleged result manipulation.
