At least 193 people died and dozens are missing after two separate boat accidents in the Democratic Republic of Congo's Equateur province. On Thursday, a boat carrying nearly 500 passengers capsized and caught fire, killing 107 and leaving 146 missing. The previous day, another boat carrying mostly students capsized, resulting in at least 86 deaths. Overloaded vessels and poor maintenance are cited as contributing factors to these frequent, deadly accidents on Congo's rivers.
