No, a Windows update probably didn’t brick your SSD

Recent reports claimed that Windows 11 updates (KB5063878 and KB5062660) caused SSDs with Phison controllers to fail. Tech influencers amplified these claims of data corruption and drive failure, blaming Microsoft. However, both Microsoft and Phison deny being able to reproduce the issue after extensive testing. Phison ran over 2,200 test cycles (4,500+ hours) without replicating the problem. While some users reported similar issues, evidence suggests it's not widespread and possibly a localized problem with a bad batch of drives.
