Anthropic settles AI book piracy lawsuit

AI company Anthropic has settled a class-action lawsuit filed by US authors who claimed copyright infringement. The authors alleged Anthropic trained its Claude AI models using pirated works from an open-source dataset. While the exact terms are undisclosed, the settlement avoids a trial that could have resulted in massive penalties for Anthropic. A previous court ruling deemed using legally purchased books for AI training as fair use, but this settlement addresses concerns about pirated materials. The settlement is expected to be finalized on September 3rd.
