A 25-year-old US Navy sailor, Jinchao Wei, was convicted of espionage for selling Navy secrets to a Chinese intelligence officer. Wei, who served on the USS Essex, used his security clearance to provide sensitive information, including ship locations and weapons details, in exchange for over $12,000. Prosecutors argued this jeopardized national security, while his attorney claimed Wei acted naively and didn't intend harm. Wei's actions involved sending thousands of pages of technical data and photos over 18 months. He faces sentencing in December.
