State Department revokes over 6,000 student visas, citing law breaking and overstays

Over 6,000 student visas were revoked by the State Department due to overstays and violations including assault, DUI, burglary, and alleged support for terrorism. This represents a small fraction of the 1.1 million foreign students in the US. Around 200-300 revocations stemmed from alleged terrorism support. The Trump administration's stricter screening, including social media checks, contributed to the increase in revocations, as exemplified by the case of Rümeysa Öztürk whose visa was initially revoked but later restored. The State Department did not provide further details.
