DeSantis Appoints Collins as New Lieutenant Governor | JQJO

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Republican state Senator Jay Collins as his new lieutenant governor. Collins, an Army veteran and nonprofit executive, is viewed as a potential successor to DeSantis in 2026. The appointment is significant due to DeSantis's inability to seek reelection and his ongoing rivalry with Donald Trump, who has endorsed a different candidate. Collins's appointment could set up another political battle between DeSantis and Trump. Collins pledged to continue DeSantis's agenda, aiming to maintain Florida's conservative stance.
