A Harvard and Rush University study suggests a link between low lithium levels and Alzheimer's disease. Research on mice showed that maintaining normal lithium levels protected against brain degradation and memory loss. Low lithium accelerated brain aging and increased inflammation, leading to cognitive decline and the buildup of Alzheimer's-related plaques and tangles. While further human trials are needed, the findings indicate that lithium levels could be a potential screening tool for early Alzheimer's detection.
