Lightning-sparked wildfires in northwestern Colorado have burned nearly 21,000 acres. The Elk fire (7,750 acres) and Lee fire (13,025 acres), fueled by hot, dry, and windy conditions, prompted a state of emergency. Around 300 firefighters are battling the blazes, protecting structures but facing challenging weather. Two houses and an outbuilding were destroyed. Poor air quality is impacting several counties, and several trails and wildlife areas are closed. Evacuation orders are in effect.
