India and the Philippines stage joint drill in the disputed South China Sea

India and the Philippines conducted their first joint naval exercises in the disputed South China Sea, a move likely to irk China. The two-day drills, deemed successful by Philippine officials, involved joint sailing and naval maneuvers. While shadowed by Chinese forces, no incidents occurred. This collaboration follows increased tensions between China and the Philippines over territorial claims in the South China Sea and aims to bolster regional deterrence. Philippine President Marcos is currently visiting India to further strengthen bilateral ties, encompassing defense cooperation and economic partnerships.
