Over 100 people, including students and attendees, required medical attention at two Paterson, New Jersey high school graduation ceremonies held outdoors during a dangerous heatwave. Temperatures reached the upper 90s with a heat index of 107 degrees. Nine people were hospitalized at the first ceremony and seven at the second. One student reported insufficient water distribution. Following the incidents, the mayor declared a state of emergency and canceled recreational activities.
