Top economist sees scenario where Trump 'outsmarted all of us' on tariffs

Uncertainty remains over President Trump's tariffs. Apollo Global Management's chief economist, Torsten Sløk, proposes a scenario where tariffs remain at 30% on China and 10% on others, but countries are given a year to reduce non-tariff barriers. This would ease uncertainty, boost the economy, and generate $400 billion in US tax revenue, according to Sløk. This contrasts with his previous warnings about recessionary risks from tariffs. Other economists offer differing views, some seeing minimal impact from lower tariffs and predicting market growth, while the Federal Reserve remains in a wait-and-see mode regarding interest rate adjustments.
