Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have agreed on a draft peace deal to end decades of conflict in eastern DRC. The agreement, mediated by the US and Qatar, includes provisions for the disengagement, disarmament, and integration of armed groups, and a joint security mechanism. While the deal, expected to be formally signed next week, could unlock billions in western investment, questions remain about the M23's withdrawal and the disarmament of other groups. Rwanda denies supporting the M23, while accusing DRC of backing the FDLR. Previous peace attempts have failed.
