Black Coffee Linked to Longer Lifespan, But Add Sugar, Lose Benefits

A study of nearly 50,000 adults found that drinking 1-3 cups of black coffee daily is associated with an 11-17% lower risk of early death. However, this benefit disappears when coffee contains high levels of added sugar and saturated fat. The study, published in The Journal of Nutrition, suggests that caffeinated coffee's positive effects are linked to its caffeine content and other bioactive compounds. Those who also drink tea did not show this benefit. The research highlights the importance of consuming coffee in its simplest form to reap its potential health advantages.
