The New York State Senate passed a bill allowing terminally ill patients to end their lives with medical assistance. The bill, previously approved by the Assembly, now awaits Governor Hochul's signature. Eleven states and the District of Columbia already have similar laws. The New York bill applies only to those with incurable, irreversible illnesses and a life expectancy of six months or less.
