4 Japanese soldiers are injured after an explosion at a US military base

Four Japanese soldiers suffered non-life-threatening finger injuries in an explosion at a U.S. military base in Okinawa, Japan. The blast occurred at a facility storing unexploded ordnance, mostly from WWII, while the soldiers were inspecting and removing rust from one of the devices. The U.S. Air Force confirmed the incident, stating no U.S. personnel were involved. The cause of the explosion is under investigation. Okinawa, a site of intense WWII fighting, continues to grapple with the legacy of unexploded ordnance.
