Harvard University has relinquished 175-year-old daguerreotypes of enslaved people, Renty and his daughter Delia, to the International African American Museum in South Carolina. This follows a 15-year legal battle initiated by Tamara Lanier, a descendant. The settlement, deemed unprecedented, concludes Lanier's fight for the return of the images, commissioned by a Harvard biologist whose racial theories supported slavery. The museum will collaborate with Lanier to ensure the photos' historical context is accurately presented.
