Sebastiao Salgado, award-winning Brazilian photographer, dead at 81

Renowned Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado passed away at age 81, his nonprofit Instituto Terra announced. Salgado, also an economist, dedicated his career to documenting industry's environmental impact, notably through his work on gold mining and oil fires. His final book, "Amazônia," highlighted the Amazon's beauty and the sustainable practices of Indigenous communities. A passionate environmentalist, he spent years restoring deforested lands in Brazil, planting over 3 million trees. He's survived by his partner, two sons, and two grandchildren.
