China’s April exports jump 8.1% to beat estimates despite U.S. tariffs

China's April exports rose 8.1% year-on-year, exceeding expectations, driven by increased shipments to Southeast Asia. This growth offset a significant 21% drop in exports to the U.S. due to new tariffs. Imports to China fell slightly, defying predictions of a steeper decline. Experts attribute the export surge partly to pre-tariff contracts and transshipment. However, future weakening of trade data is anticipated.
