Formaldehyde Found in Common Beauty Products: Urgent Warning Issued

Read, Watch or Listen

A new study reveals formaldehyde, a carcinogen, in numerous personal care products beyond hair straighteners, including shampoos and lotions. The Silent Spring Institute's research, involving 70 Black and Latina women in Los Angeles, found 53% used products containing formaldehyde releasers, often daily. DMDM hydantoin was the most common culprit. Experts warn of health risks ranging from irritation to cancer, urging better product regulation, warning labels, and potentially banning formaldehyde releasers. The study highlights health inequities impacting women of color.
