A 47-year-old American tourist, also a resident of Taiwan, suffered a severe back injury after impaling himself on a fence near Rome's Colosseum while attempting to climb it. He screamed in pain, bled profusely, and lost consciousness before being rescued by paramedics. The man underwent emergency surgery receiving 80 stitches. This is not the first incident involving American tourists at the Colosseum; previous incidents include vandalism and trespassing.
