New research presented at the American Association for Cancer Research meeting reveals that female cancer survivors experience significantly higher rates of fatigue and depression than male survivors. This disparity, impacting millions of Americans, leads to reduced physical activity and lower quality of life. Women are 69% more likely to report cancer-related fatigue and 58% more likely to report depression. The study suggests that stronger immune responses, slower drug clearance, hormonal therapies, and societal gender roles may contribute to this difference. However, moderate exercise shows promise in alleviating fatigue and depression in both men and women.
