NASHVILLE, Tenn. — National Weather Service teams will delay on-site surveys of two possible tornadoes in Middle Tennessee until Wednesday because a second round of severe storms is expected to move through the region Tuesday evening and night. The NWS said crews will wait until the additional rain, wind and tornado threat passes before beginning damage assessments.

Once the storms clear, the NWS teams for Robertson and Davidson counties will survey damage from a tornado that appeared on radar near Ivy Point in Goodlettsville; local video showed downed trees and lightning. Crews will document debris patterns to confirm a tornado and to determine its strength, path and width. A separate NWS team will inspect damage in northern Lawrence County, which was under a tornado warning around 2 a.m. but lacked radar or visual confirmation of a touchdown, to determine whether reported damage resulted from straight-line winds or a tornado.

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Phillies fired manager Rob Thomson on Tuesday after the team lost 11 of 12 games and began the day tied for last place in the majors. Thomson had guided the Phillies to four consecutive playoff appearances, including their run to the 2022 World Series.

Bench coach Don Mattingly was named interim manager through the end of the season, and third-base coach Dusty Wathan was promoted to bench coach. The moves come as the Phillies attempt to halt a severe slide that left them with 11 losses in 12 games and tied for the majors' basement, efforts intended to stabilize the club's on-field performance.

Minneapolis, Minn. — Federal agents executed 22 court-authorized search warrants Tuesday morning across childcare centers and several businesses in the Minneapolis area as part of an ongoing fraud investigation, the Department of Justice and Homeland Security Investigations confirmed. Visual reporting from scene locations showed agents entering multiple facilities and documenting materials.

The operation follows prior federal indictments alleging alleged recruitment into fake autism services and roughly $14 million in disputed claims, and comes after viral social-media videos raised questions about some centers. Officials including DOJ, HSI and White House task force leadership have confirmed the coordinated action; state leaders and federal law enforcement issued public comments this week.

Washington, United States: President Donald Trump and his national security team met this week as the administration reviewed Tehran's latest offer, with Iran proposing on April 28–29 to cease military operations in the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the United States lifting its maritime blockade, according to multiple media reports and official statements.

The proposal, delivered by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and discussed in Russian talks on April 29, would reopen a vital shipping route if hostilities end and the blockade is removed; US officials expressed skepticism, regional mediators warned of a ‘frozen conflict,’ and oil prices climbed above $110 per barrel as diplomatic consultations continued this week.

Washington — The Southern Poverty Law Center told a federal court on Tuesday that law enforcement agencies had long known the nonprofit paid informants to report on the movements of white supremacist and other extremist groups, rejecting statements by Justice Department officials that the organization steered money to Ku Klux Klan members and similar figures without authorities’ knowledge.

The filings follow a federal grand jury in Alabama returning an 11-count indictment last week accusing the SPLC of wire and bank fraud for allegedly using donor funds to pay informants; SPLC lawyers asked the court to compel grand jury disclosures and to block Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche from repeating claims the government lacked information about the program, and additional hearings are expected to address disclosure and related evidentiary disputes.

COCONUT GROVE, Fla. — Watsco Inc. on Tuesday reported first-quarter net income of $79.1 million, or $1.87 per share, and revenue of $1.53 billion; both reports were published via Automated Insights using Zacks data, prompting investors and analysts this week to update short-term models and consider guidance changes for Commvault ahead of upcoming reporting cycles.

Clinch County, Ga. Gov. Brian Kemp toured areas of southern Georgia on Tuesday impacted by ongoing wildfires, flying by helicopter over affected parts of Clinch and Echols counties and meeting with Georgia Forestry Commission and emergency management leaders to assess damage and response operations after fires that began April 20.

This week officials reported improved containment after weekend rains, with the Brantley County fire at about 32% containment and the Pineland Road/Clinch area near 23%; evacuations have been conducted and officials warned drought persists, stating crews will continue containment and recovery work in the coming weeks while tallying acreage and structure losses.

Lehi, Utah and Hayward, California. Purple Innovation and Ultra Clean each reported first-quarter results on Tuesday: Purple disclosed a $30.5 million net loss with $95.7 million in revenue in the period, and Ultra Clean reported a $17.9 million net loss with $533.7 million in revenue for its first quarter.

This week both companies provided forward guidance: Purple gave a full-year revenue range of $465 million to $485 million, while Ultra Clean forecasted per-share earnings of $0.44 to $0.60 and revenue between $565 million and $605 million for the quarter ending in June; the reports were distributed via Automated Insights using Zacks data.

New York: India urged immediate restoration of safe and unimpeded maritime passage through the Strait of Hormuz during a UN Security Council open debate on April 28, with Charge d'Affaires Yojna Patel warning that recent attacks on commercial shipping threaten global peace, energy security and economic stability and citing loss of Indian seafarers.

On April 28, Patel called for renewed international cooperation and adherence to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) to safeguard critical sea lanes; the statement signals Delhi's push for coordinated measures to protect trade routes, offers a legal basis for responses, and places maritime security on the UNSC agenda this week.

Washington — On Wednesday, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear consolidated arguments in Mullin v. Doe over whether the administration may terminate Temporary Protected Status for roughly 350,000 Haitians and about 6,100 Syrians currently residing in the United States. The proceedings test whether executive decisions to end TPS are subject to judicial review and come amid prior actions ending protections for other countries.

This week’s hearing follows lower-court rulings that temporarily blocked some terminations and last year’s Supreme Court decisions allowing revocation of TPS for Venezuelans, which the administration cites as precedent. If the high court sides with the government, millions of TPS decisions may be insulated from review, affecting litigation timelines, recipient work authorization, and potential removal proceedings in coming months.
