Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described his reportedly tense meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump as “positive,” despite failing to secure Tomahawk missiles after Trump spoke with Vladimir Putin. Zelenskyy said Trump favors a freeze along the current front line and wants upcoming talks with Putin in Hungary to open a path to peace, though Kyiv has not been invited. He pressed for faster access to 25 Patriot systems and noted U.S. interest in energy projects, including an LNG terminal in Odesa. Zelenskyy criticized Budapest as a venue and questioned Putin’s territorial swap proposal.

Washington’s surprise sequel is wobbling as Jayden Daniels misses time with knee and hamstring injuries, pushing Marcus Mariota into streaming range for a bye-heavy Week 8. Around the league: Jacoby Brissett has outplayed Kyler Murray; Minnesota is trapped between Carson Wentz and J.J. McCarthy; Rashee Rice dominated targets on limited snaps; Carolina leaned to Rico Dowdle over Chuba Hubbard; TreVeyon Henderson is droppable. Elsewhere, Mike McDaniel’s resignation wasn’t accepted, Justin Fields was benched, rookie TE Oronde Gadsden II erupted, Chicago embraced a two-back tilt, Kendre Miller hurt his knee, and the Colts’ offense leads by points per drive.

In its fifth year, the Academy Museum Gala returned with a blue carpet and a sharpened couture focus, earning its “Met Gala of the West” nickname. Artful statements ranged from Kim Kardashian’s masked Maison Margiela gown to Rebecca Hall’s intarsia tulle and Jenna Ortega’s custom breastplate. Ayo Edebiri debuted as Chanel’s new ambassador, Penélope Cruz received the Icon Award, and Bowen Yang accepted the Vantage Award. Newly married Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco made their first post‑wedding appearance in Armani, while designers from Dior to Versace showcased fresh spring 2026 looks.

The Trump administration fired two assistant U.S. attorneys in Virginia who opposed the case against New York Attorney General Letitia James, a high-ranking Justice Department source told CBS News. Kristin Bird and Elizabeth Yusi were removed from the Norfolk office, where James’ prosecution is based, amid an ongoing purge. DOJ declined comment. Interim U.S. attorney Lindsey Halligan has charged James Comey, secured James’ indictment in Alexandria, and has never appeared in Norfolk federal court. James is due in court Friday, but it’s unclear who will represent the Justice Department at the hearing after the firings.

Justice Department prosecutors moved to question whether James Comey’s lead lawyer, Patrick Fitzgerald, can continue on the case, citing a potential conflict tied to alleged 2017 leaks of classified material. Comey’s team called the claim “provably false” and an “effort to defame.” A filing says “quarantined” evidence includes communications between the two. Fitzgerald pointed to a DOJ inspector general report finding no evidence Comey or his attorneys released classified information, and noted Comey’s seven Trump memos were unclassified when shared. CNN analyst Elie Honig warned a lawyer-witness overlap is “a dicey situation.” Comey was fired May 9, 2017.

About 90% of U.S. adults haven’t heard of cardiovascular‑kidney‑metabolic (CKM) syndrome, even as nearly 9 in 10 are at risk, an American Heart Association survey found. Defined by the AHA in October 2023, CKM links heart, kidney, diabetes and obesity; risk factors include high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol, high blood sugar, excess weight and reduced kidney function. One-third of Americans carry three or more risks, said cardiologist Nidhi Kumar. Nearly three‑quarters of respondents, once CKM was explained, saw it as important and wanted to learn more. The Harris Poll surveyed about 4,000 adults in August 2025.

U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis will question federal immigration officials in Chicago on Monday over possible violations of her order restricting tear gas and requiring body cameras, after renewed clashes with protesters and journalists. The hearing follows DHS’s Operation Midway Blitz, which it says led to more than 1,500 arrests across Illinois, and incidents in which CBP used crowd-control measures days after Ellis’s Oct. 9 ruling. City protests have grown, and plaintiffs allege First Amendment violations. DHS seeks changes to camera rules and a different witness, as leadership shifts and officials blame “one-sided” media reports.

Iniu’s P55-E2 portable charger just hit its lowest price yet: $13.74 on Amazon after an automatic 45 percent off coupon. The ultra-slim 10,000mAh bank offers up to 45W charging via USB-C, three ports (two USB-C, one USB-A) for powering multiple devices, and a display for real-time battery status. It supports pass-through charging, and its detachable lanyard doubles as a USB-C cable. An update clarifies the discount applies to the P55-E2, not the smaller “Pocket Rocket” P50, though both share 10,000mAh capacity and 45W speeds.

At a hearing on the Trump administration’s Chicago-area immigration crackdown—linked to more than 1,000 arrests and complaints of combative tactics—a federal official said all Border Patrol agents in Operation Midway Blitz now wear body cameras, following Judge Sara Ellis’s order to record arrests, frisks, searches and protest deployments. Ellis, who earlier required badges and restricted certain riot-control tactics, said she was “a little startled” by televised tear gas scenes. CBP’s Kyle Harvick defended Oct. 12 tear gas as a safety measure. News and community groups submitted five pages of questions; government lawyers said officers have been attacked and impeded.

Billionaire John Castimatidis, CEO of WABC Radio and Red Apple Media, urged Republican New York City mayoral hopeful Curtis Sliwa to quit, warning his candidacy could split the vote; he called for consolidating support behind a 'viable alternative' to avoid a damaging outcome. Sliwa refused: 'I trust the people… I will not drop out.' Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani, appearing amused, said he and Sliwa agree that billionaires shouldn’t control the city’s future, and added that independent candidate Andrew Cuomo is pleading with Donald Trump and billionaire donors to clear a path for his return.
