A developer who builds iOS exploits—identified as “Jay Gibson”—says Apple warned him on March 5 that his iPhone was targeted by mercenary spyware, a case that may be the first where an exploit-and-spyware developer was targeted. He panicked, shut off the phone, and bought a new one. A forensic expert found no infection in an initial check but urged deeper analysis, which Gibson declined. He links the alert to his firing from Trenchant amid a leak probe; L3Harris declined comment. Three sources say other developers recently received similar Apple notifications.

An estimated 7 million Americans joined peaceful “No Kings” protests Saturday against what the article describes as a breakdown of checks and balances. Trump answered with an AI video of himself, crowned in a fighter jet, dumping apparent feces on protesters, then labeled participants “whacked out” and “not representative.” Citing an Economist/YouGov poll, the piece notes 81% of Republicans approve of his job performance. It recounts a Politico report on racist, misogynistic exchanges in a young Republican group, reactions by JD Vance and Speaker Mike Johnson, a Vermont senator’s resignation, and a warning that midterms may decide what comes next.

Nick Cannon marked a family moment by posting a photo with his 14-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, outside Knott’s Scary Farm in Buena Park, Calif., where the teens nearly tower over him as he grins with an arm around each. In his caption, he called the night a “Thriller.” The Masked Singer host, 45, who is a dad of 12, recently told PEOPLE his “nontraditional, unorthodox” parenting centers on being present and leading with love. Earlier, the twins shared heartfelt Father’s Day tributes, thanking him for always being there.

A heavily armed Homeland Security raid at a troubled South Shore apartment building, showcased in a dramatic agency video, aimed at the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua but resulted in only two alleged gang arrests among 27 immigrants detained. Residents say dozens of U.S. citizens’ units were searched and at least a half-dozen Americans held for hours; doors were smashed and belongings strewn. Officials say the operation was part of "Operation Midway Blitz," citing months of intelligence and landlord reports, as Chicago leaders decry escalating tactics that have swept up more than 1,000 immigrants.

A 55-year-old Palestinian woman, Afaf Abu Alia, was hospitalized after a masked settler struck her with a wooden stick as she picked olives in Turmus Ayya, videoed by US journalist Jasper Nathaniel. He said she was knocked unconscious and hit again as she lay bleeding; doctors say she is now stable. The IDF said forces dispersed the confrontation and condemned settler violence, a claim Nathaniel disputes. The assault was part of a wider attack by at least 15 masked settlers, amid harvest-season violence that UN monitors say has injured more than 3,200 Palestinians in 2025.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials say a woman fatally shot a man who groped a customer and threatened people inside a Compton store on Sunday. Deputies responded to a disturbance at a shopping center on the 1300 block of East Alondra Boulevard and found the man with a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say he followed and groped a woman, became aggressive, damaged merchandise, and appeared to brandish a knife while threatening to kill everyone. Another customer fired a warning shot, then a second shot when he turned toward her. Authorities seek witnesses.

Warner Bros. Discovery said HBO Max prices are rising as of Tuesday, Oct. 21, with new subscriptions increasing immediately. Existing monthly customers will get 30 days’ notice and see higher rates from their first billing date on or after Nov. 20, 2025; yearly plans rise at renewal. WBD last raised ad-free prices in June 2024 and in July switched the service’s name back to HBO Max. The company touted a slate spanning HBO, Warner Bros., DC, and previewed IT: Welcome to Derry, The Chair Company, I Love LA, a Game of Thrones prequel, and new seasons arriving in January 2026.

In the shutdown’s fourth week, Senate Republicans head to the White House for a show of unity with President Donald Trump, refusing Democratic demands as Senate Democrats keep rejecting a House bill to reopen government without talks on expiring ACA subsidies. With both sides dug in, federal workers face more missed paychecks; WIC and Head Start risk funding cuts; the NNSA is furloughing 1,400 workers; and the FAA reports controller shortages and flight delays. Deadlines loom around Nov. 1 enrollment and Nov. 21 funding, while leaders signal no compromise.

A retired US navy veteran who says George Santos kept $3,000 raised for his dying service dog condemned President Donald Trump’s decision to commute the ex-congressman’s seven-year, three-month sentence. On MSNBC, Richard Osthoff called Trump “a walking middle finger” and said Santos “should have done at least half” his term. Santos, expelled from Congress after pleading guilty to wire fraud and identity theft, served three months before Friday’s commutation. Trump said Santos “lied like hell” but was “100% for Trump.” Santos later argued his punishment was “disproportionate” and said he no longer owes restitution.

European leaders and Ukraine’s allies issued a carefully worded warning to U.S. President Donald Trump, endorsing his call to stop fighting while rejecting any territorial concessions to Moscow. In a joint statement signed by Volodymyr Zelenskyy and leaders including Keir Starmer, Friedrich Merz, Emmanuel Macron, Giorgia Meloni and Ursula von der Leyen, they backed immediate talks using the current line of contact but stressed borders cannot be changed by force. The message lands before a European Council debate on Russian assets, after Trump urged freezing the war along front lines and later denied urging Ukraine to cede the Donbas.
