Seven-Minute Louvre Heist Steals Priceless Jewels

Armed thieves stormed the Louvre’s Apollo Gallery on Sunday morning, smashing display cases and fleeing on Yamaha TMax scooters with jewels officials call priceless. Police say the highly organized raid lasted about seven minutes; the suspects used a truck-mounted lift to enter through a window and numbered three to four. One jewel was found abandoned nearby, according to Culture Minister Rachida Dati. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said all central Paris police units are mobilized. The museum was evacuated and will remain closed Sunday as investigators catalog items believed to be from the museum’s Napoleonic collection and secure evidence.
