Mexican journalist Miguel Angel Beltran, who covered drug trafficking on social media, was found murdered Saturday along a highway between Durango and Mazatlan, officials told AFP. Local media said his body was wrapped in a blanket with a message accusing him of spreading false claims about Durango. The Durango state prosecutor confirmed his death. Beltran posted on TikTok as Capo and on Facebook, on the page La Gazzetta Durango, and reported on an arrest linked to the Cabrera Sarabia gang. His killing highlights Mexico’s peril for reporters, where impunity persists and five journalists were killed in 2024, CPJ says.
