The Metropolitan police are examining claims that Prince Andrew asked a taxpayer-funded protection officer to obtain Virginia Giuffre’s personal data hours before a photo of them emerged, after leaked 2011 emails suggested he shared her date of birth and US social security number. A minister called the messages “deeply concerning”; Ed Miliband said such use of officers must be investigated. There is no suggestion the officer complied. On Friday Andrew said he would no longer use his titles; he remains a prince and retains the dukedom. Giuffre took her own life earlier this year.
