Israel said remains of three people handed to the Red Cross by Hamas do not belong to any hostages, complicating a U.S.-brokered ceasefire. The transfer came after Israel returned 30 Palestinian bodies to Gaza, completing an exchange that had seemed to inch the truce forward. Hamas said Israel refused to take body samples and instead demanded full remains for examination. Since the Oct. 10 truce, militants have released the remains of 17 hostages, while Israel has returned 225 Palestinian bodies. Tensions rose after Israeli strikes killed more than 100 people following an Israeli soldier’s killing in Rafah.
