Illinois candidate indicted over immigration protest

Democratic congressional candidate Kat Abughazaleh and five others were indicted for allegedly blocking a federal agent’s vehicle during September protests outside a suburban Chicago immigration processing center, court records show. The indictment says the group surrounded the car, banged on it, broke a mirror and left “PIG” scratched on it, forcing the driver to inch forward. Abughazaleh called the case a political prosecution and defended the protests. Separately, U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis ordered Border Patrol leader Greg Bovino to deliver nightly briefings on Chicago operations amid arrests and force complaints.
