Gaza Clashes Pit Hamas Against Dughmush Clan

At least 27 people were killed in Gaza City as Hamas security forces battled gunmen from the Dughmush clan, witnesses said—19 from the clan and eight Hamas members. The clashes erupted Saturday in Tel al-Hawa and near the former Jordanian Hospital after more than 300 Hamas fighters moved on a residential block, sending panicked families fleeing. Hamas says the clan had killed two of its men; the Dughmush accuse Hamas of trying to evict them. Hamas has recalled about 7,000 security personnel to reassert control in areas vacated by Israeli troops.
