Heavy rains unleashed flooding and landslides across central and southeastern Mexico, killing at least 22 people and tearing up homes and highways, authorities said Friday. Hidalgo was hardest hit, with 16 deaths, damage to at least 1,000 homes, 59 hospitals and clinics, and 308 schools, and power out in 17 of 84 municipalities. In Puebla, three died, 13 were missing, and the governor sought federal help to rescue 15 people stranded on rooftops; a landslide ruptured a gas pipeline. Veracruz reported two deaths as Poza Rica flooded and power was cut. Queretaro confirmed a child’s death.
