Off Thitu Island in the disputed South China Sea, a Chinese coast guard ship blasted the BRP Datu Pagbuaya with a water cannon and then rammed its stern, slightly damaging the anchored Philippine government vessel, the Philippine coast guard said. No injuries were reported. China said the Philippine ships illegally entered waters near Sandy Cay and ignored warnings, calling its actions lawful and blaming Manila for a scrape. The United States condemned China’s “aggressive actions” and voiced support for the Philippines as Manila vowed not to yield territory.
