After late-night layoff notices went to about 1,300 CDC workers Friday, 700 were reinstated Saturday and 600 remain laid off, the federal workers’ union said. HHS blamed miscoded notices and said affected staff were never separated. Reinstatements included MMWR publishers, measles response lead Athalia Christie, Epidemic Intelligence Service officers, and staff in NCIRD, the Global Health Center, and the Public Health Infrastructure Center. Staff in CDC’s Washington office, Violence Prevention programs, and Injury Center leadership remain out. As President Donald Trump vowed to fire workers during the shutdown, AFGE sued; a court filing lists over 4,100 affected across agencies.
