At least 41 people died in central and southeastern Mexico after days of torrential rain unleashed floods and landslides, authorities said Saturday. Soldiers fanned out to clear roads and search for the missing as waters receded. In Poza Rica, residents described a sudden wall of water and the sound of cars crashing before streets filled with more than 12 feet of floodwater. Not everyone escaped: a resident later found his uncle facedown in murky water by his bed. Officials reported fatalities in Hidalgo, Puebla and Veracruz, and said 27 people remain missing.
