On the eve of New York City’s mayoral vote, President Donald Trump warned he would limit federal funds if Zohran Mamdani wins, labeling him a communist, and echoed the stance on 60 Minutes. While Congress controls appropriations and impoundment is illegal, the White House has already withheld $18 billion for a tunnel and tried to pull $34 million in counterterrorism money a judge ordered restored. Trump indicated a preference for independent Andrew Cuomo, dismissing GOP nominee Curtis Sliwa. Cuomo amplified the warning and said the National Guard could be sent. Mamdani called Trump’s statements a political threat, not law.
