In Heidelberg, Mississippi, three Rhesus monkeys remained at large Wednesday after a truck carrying 21 research animals overturned along Interstate 59. Initial claims that all but one had been killed were revised when Tulane University experts entered the trailer and confirmed three had escaped. Tulane said the monkeys are pathogen-free and not owned or transported by the school, though housed at its research center. Authorities warned the animals can be aggressive and should be "neutralized." People in white coats, gloves and hair nets joined law officers in the search as Highway Patrol investigated the crash.
